Solve Minor Heating and Cooling Issues

Not all heating and cooling issues require a professional as soon as you notice them. Sometimes it's as simple as adjusting a thermostat or resetting a fuse. If your heating and cooling systems aren't running, try these simple steps first. If you're still experiencing issues, give Tri City AC & Heat a call at (731) 740-9500 to schedule a same day estimate on repairs.

Air Conditioner Not Cooling?

  • After 1st checking the settings on your thermostat, make sure the temperature control selector is set below the current room temperature & the system switch is on the COOL or AUTO position.
  • Lower the thermostat to its lowest temperature setting, to try to get the air conditioner to turn on.
  • Check the air filter if the air flow out of your registers seems low. Air flow can be blocked if the air filter is extremely dirty.
  • Check the power disconnect switch by each unit (outdoor and indoor).
  • At the electrical panel, check the fuse/breaker for both the outdoor and indoor unit.
  • Make sure all registers are open and not obstructed.

  • Check the air filter if the air flow out of your registers seems low. Air flow can be blocked if the air filter is extremely dirty.
  • Check the power disconnect switch by the heat pump.
  • At the electrical panel, check the fuse/breaker for the unit.
  • Make sure all registers are open and not obstructed.

Gas Furnace Not Heating?

Make sure the temperature control selector is set above the current room temperature, and the system switch is on the HEAT or AUTO position. Raise the thermostat to its highest temperature setting to try to get the furnace to turn on. If the air flow out of your registers seems low, check the air filter. Air flow can be blocked if the air filter is extremely dirty. Make sure all registers are open and not obstructed.
